The need for reliable, high bandwidth connectivity is continuously growing. Bondix by SIMA is a WAN Bonding software that ensures reliable connectivity for all applications such as voice, video and data transmission - for mobile and stationary deployments alike.
Introduction
With the growing need for dependable, high bandwidth connectivity, Bondix Intelligence (hereinafter referred to as Bondix) has developed a cutting edge software solution that ensures reliable connectivity across various applications such as voice, video, and data transmission. This software is designed for both mobile and stationary environments, providing a flexible solution for diverse connectivity requirements.
The software integrates seamlessly with different platforms, enabling WAN aggregation capabilities. By implementing bonding, load balancing, and seamless transitions between different WAN interfaces and providers, it guarantees a stable connection that keeps you continuously connected.
Application
In situations where increased throughput or enhanced access to remote resources is necessary, utilizing multiple connections becomes crucial. These connections may include fixed networks or wireless options like fiber, DSL, WiFi, cellular, or satellite, either individually or in combination. Efficiently managing the use of these diverse connections is where this solution excels, ensuring high availability and optimal performance for uninterrupted operations.
High Availability and Bonding
By adding an additional connection through an alternative network operator or another WAN option such as WiFi or satellite, the software increases the total available bandwidth for a single TCP/IP connection, thereby improving uptime and reducing the impact of line failures or network issues. It offers a variety of policies and configurations for WAN scheduling, allowing users to customize settings according to specific requirements. With its advanced bonding features, the solution provides a resilient and cost effective virtual uplink for both mobile and fixed deployments.
Technology Options
Seamless Backup: Uses different WAN uplinks, with the primary connection dedicated to the active application. If the primary link fails, the system automatically switches to the next available interface without disrupting active connections.
Load Balancing with Seamless Handover: Distributes application data evenly across available WAN connections to ensure maximum bandwidth usage. Traffic is rerouted to other links if a failure occurs.
Bonding (WAN Aggregation): Ideal for simultaneously using multiple WAN uplinks to provide aggregated bandwidth for user applications, optimizing traffic distribution when a single connection isn't sufficient.
Additional Features
Packet Duplication: Minimizes jitter and loss for real time, low latency applications by replicating packet flow across multiple WAN uplinks.
Bonding Proxy: Enhances TCP connections to achieve higher data throughput, especially in cases where uplink characteristics vary significantly (e.g., satellite versus 4G).
Latency Smoothing: Monitors uplink performance and latency, stabilizing latency by preventing any individual link from becoming saturated. Low Bandwidth, interactive streams are prioritized over the fastest link, while bulk data is spread across all connections.
Optimal WAN Utilization: Augment throughput during peak demand by adding additional uplinks to your existing internet connection. The software dynamically manages these uplinks when bandwidth needs increase, reducing costs by keeping them on standby during times of lower demand.
Architecture
The architecture consists of a client and a server (relay). The client software, installed on the router, aggregates all available WAN interfaces into a virtual tunnel. This tunnel, established over any WAN medium, uses the server as a relay to forward data seamlessly to internal or external networks.
The following example demonstrates how a typical router can establish a bonded tunnel via multiple WAN connections:
Security
The Bondix software boasts multiple robust security features:
Certificate-Based Authentication:Bondix offers support for certificate-based authentication for both clients and servers. In the event of a router being lost or stolen, it can be promptly excluded from the network in just a few simple steps, ensuring heightened security.
VPN Support: Unlike many other WAN bonding solutions on the market, Bondix does not rely on a proprietary VPN to bundle data traffic. Instead, it seamlessly integrates with industry-leading VPN solutions such as IPSec, OpenVPN, and Wireguard, ensuring compatibility and flexibility.
Server Geo-Redundancy: Bondixis equipped with server redundancy support. In the event of a back-end failure, clients can be configured to automatically switch between multiple endpoints, minimizing downtime and ensuring continuous operation.
Management
Bondix comes equipped with built-in tools for monitoring the status of clients, gateways, and all active WAN connections. This comprehensive management functionality ensures that administrators can efficiently oversee and maintain the network infrastructure, enhancing overall operational efficiency and security.
Hardware platform
The Bondix client software is intended as a hardware-agnostic multi-WAN router operating system and is already available today on the following Teltonika platforms:
Teltonika RUTX Series
Teltonika RUT 950/955
On the server side, the software is delivered as an Open Virtual Appliance (OVA), which can be installed on a local server as well as in the cloud.
